Artist's Comments

Sync is a character I created for my Digital Media Design assignment (it was for a DVD cover, and I decided to make mine for a game so Sync is the main character). He's heavily based on Cub Solloby, who I drew some time last year if I recall correctly.

Because Sync is for print media, he is CYMK and was 300dpi but I optimised him for the web so he is much smaller and lower quality here.

I've changed shading style once again, using brighter backlights because I've always liked them. I had another go at gradient shading for the highlights and am much happier this time.

I like the blues, and how the shading turned out. ^^ Very nice!

Thank you! I had a bit of a hard time working with the CMYK colours because I'm so used to RGB and at first found them restricting because the CMYK colour gamut is smaller, but I think it worked out ok. Plus he's not overly saturated, which is a good thing.

I like the gradiant coloring. It's pretty. :3 He's really cute. I bet he'd be adorable in a video game! :3

Ohh... CMYK is so easy to forget. XD; It's amazing the bit of difference it makes though. I've gotta keep that in mind if/when I make things for print. @_@

Thanks! I'd love to actually make a videogame featuring him, but I don't think I have the skills or time to make anything decent, lol.

Even though I used CMYK it still didn't print like on the screen, but that was to be expected I suppose. I think it came out pretty neat anyways. And in the printer options for my colour printer at home, most of the colour options (there were many so I left it on the default) had RGB somewhere in its name, no CMYK stuff. I just let the printer sort it out XD

Remember 300 or 600dpi! I'm so used to working in 72dpi because just about all my art is for the internet. But I should get into the habit of making it 300dpi because I can always reduce the dpi, but not enlarge it. At least not well.
:iconjammerlea:
Yeah, I know. I made the mistake once of trying to make something for print and then editing it in Adobe ImageReady... which is specifically for internet files, so it ate my dpi. D: Not fair.

Aw! Well I tried to print my assignment on my parents' computer which doesn't have Photoshop, so I tried to save it in another format and picked PNG, which yes ate my dpi. But then I realised I had Illustrator on their computer so printed it through that =)

shading looks amazing! very clean and smooth style you have :3
:iconsolloby:
Thanks! I was trying a new shading style, it seems I am forever changing. Improvement is a great thing though =)
